Pick your Battles

Last January, Jan – my mother’s husband who has been a father to me – was informed that he had cancer. Prostate cancer spread to his bones. It means that his goal of leading a happy life to the age of 90 with my mom, is not an option. Strong as an ox, he began his battle with hormone treatments and chemotherapy. After 4 sessions of chemotherapy, these were stopped, because the side effects were too damaging.

In his case, “neuropathy” is a serious side-effect. It causes pain in fingers and toes. There is no treatment for this. It also causes a number of practical problems, because one loses the feeling in fingers and toes completely.  Experiencing this has inspired me to do something for further research into a cure for cancer and especially for neuropathy.

Jan has dedicated his entire life unconditionally to his environment, his friends and family. It is with sorrow that we realize there is nothing we can do now for his health. But what we can do is to join together and contribute to research that aims to save others’ lives.

With your help we will support more research so that one day cancer will not kill any more. Donate and support our mission against cancer!

Let’s fight together!

Cancer.  A disease that many of us will face sooner or later.  In 2018 more than 18,000,000 people were diagnosed with cancer, and still there is no medicine that can cure all types of cancer.

Many people are dedicating themselves to the fight against cancer, and research is making significant progress, but we need more to beat cancer.  Together with FIGHTCANCER, a sister-organization of the Queen Wilhelmina Fund (KWF), I am trying to collect as much money as I can for research towards the cure and prevention of cancer.  Together we strive for a world where no one needs to fight cancer!

What am I going to do?

In order to generate as many donations as possible, I have set for myself a goal of climbing the Cotopaxi in Ecuador at the end of 2019. This volcano – at a height of almost 6,000 meters – is one of the tallest active volcanos of the world. This is one of the biggest challenges for me I could design, and it demands much intensive training and preparation. In doing this, I want to step outside my own comfort zone in order to reach as many people as possible and thus collect a great amount for cancer research. My fight with this volcano pales in comparison to the fight that Jan has commenced. Together we will join in our fight!
